R3 Commercial attends Heat Network Suite event during Midlothian Climate Week

R3 Commercial joined businesses and organisations from across the region yesterday for an event at the Heat Network Suite at the Energy Training Academy in Dalkeith, as part of Midlothian Climate Week.

The event provided an opportunity to learn more about the role of heat networks in supporting the transition towards lower-carbon heating, while bringing together people working across energy, property, construction and the wider built environment.

For R3 Commercial, attending was about more than understanding the technology itself. As a business providing building maintenance, repair, engineering and construction solutions to commercial properties, keeping up with changes in the way buildings are heated, maintained and operated is an important part of understanding the challenges facing our customers.

The Heat Network Suite provides a dedicated environment for presentations, training and discussion around the development of heat networks and clean energy. The Energy Training Academy describes the space as being designed to encourage collaboration and accelerate the future of clean energy.

Midlothian is already seeing significant development in this area. Midlothian Energy is working on low-carbon energy projects and a district heating network which will initially supply heat to homes, education and retail properties at Shawfair, with longer-term plans to expand the network further.

For businesses involved in the management and maintenance of commercial buildings, these developments highlight the importance of looking beyond individual building systems and considering how the wider energy infrastructure is changing.
